an Elephant

I live in a box

and wait to break free

to roam across the lands

kept hidden from me

secluded from true being

lost to the world

my bones are depleted,

brain inwardly curled

I stare at the strangers

their stern faces a blur

a whirlwind of motion

frenzied where no creatures stir

the cage where I stand

there is a tear in the fence

a chink to glance further

when solace is silenced

and in that hole

I may find a way

to cross my paths

into another fray

where fields abound,

hope awaits those that walk

their own true road

illuminated beyond the dark.

About 365 Things to Write About

I'm inspired by almost anything and everything creative - nature, architecture, art, words, music...I like to roam along streets, through foreign countries, and within my mind where the world is full of endless possibilities. I dream of being an idealist, but I've experienced too many harsh realities for that wish to ever be true. Therefore, I look for the hope and the good in small nuances, and I express my thoughts and feelings about the world around me on pages and canvases whenever I can.
