Word Prompt: Fence

In the strip –

Between wire fence and concrete wall

I wait for a man

Scouring the crawl space

To verify my house is sound

Not sinking into soft mud

My feet are already there

Squishing patent leather

Caked in brown earth

Scattered with patches

Grass sprouts and clover

Peeking into the sun

I dance for its elusive touch

Gazing at the green

Cautious not to smash

Precious leaves – chills set in

Heart glazed in dry blood

Discarded in the earth

Love waiting to be re-found

Remember it was always there

But someone forgot

It needs a home

People to touch, claim as its own

Before the man appears

My answer is here

Imprint in damp soil

Solid truth pumping in my open palm

My home is safe and sound.

About 365 Things to Write About

I'm inspired by almost anything and everything creative - nature, architecture, art, words, music...I like to roam along streets, through foreign countries, and within my mind where the world is full of endless possibilities. I dream of being an idealist, but I've experienced too many harsh realities for that wish to ever be true. Therefore, I look for the hope and the good in small nuances, and I express my thoughts and feelings about the world around me on pages and canvases whenever I can.
