Word Prompt: Hollywood

In Hollywood,

Waitresses sell their headshots for ten dollars to patrons from out of town;

Homeless men sing arias on street corners and pray for miracles to give them their break – or two bucks in change;

Agents drive flashy Beamers and shoot winks across every room – all smiles until the offer is made and a contract has to be scored;

Midwestern blondes arrive in drives, fresh from farmlands, with hopes of becoming the 21st century Marilyn Monroe;

Tan men crunch six-pack abs at the gym every evening at eight;

Assistants panic and lose sleep over mixed-up meetings and forgotten phone calls;

Every second, every detail counts in this “anything goes” kind of town;

Punk rockers mingle with hipsters and hip hop in the lines outside bars;

Giant stars pollute the streets in oversized, black Escalades;

Superheroes beg for change on Hollywood Boulevard’s walk of fame;

Writers’ rooms punch up scripts and shout out one-liners at lightning paces;

The town never sees a true thunderstorm shake and rattle quaint bungalow window frames;

Earthquake kits gather dust on store shelves waiting for their next big role;

Traffic fills the stop and go streets, inching along at 30 miles an hour;

Tourists gaze in awe and wonder at a place filled with more plastic than the city landfill in East LA.

About 365 Things to Write About

I'm inspired by almost anything and everything creative - nature, architecture, art, words, music...I like to roam along streets, through foreign countries, and within my mind where the world is full of endless possibilities. I dream of being an idealist, but I've experienced too many harsh realities for that wish to ever be true. Therefore, I look for the hope and the good in small nuances, and I express my thoughts and feelings about the world around me on pages and canvases whenever I can.
